Expert introduction
Dr. Satoshi Kusuda (Figure 1) is currently appointed as President of Neonatal Research Network of Japan MD, Clinical Professor at Tokyo Health Care University, and Neonatal Consultant at Kyorin University. He is a Board Member of the Japanese Society for Perinatal and Neonatal Medicine and the Immediate-Past President of the Asia-Oceania Perinatal Society, a Board Member of the World Association of Perinatal Medicine.
He has published over 190 English papers in international journals such as The Lancet Infectious Disease, Pediatrics, The Journal of Pediatrics, Pediatric Research, and Archive of Diseases in Childhood.

Interview
PM: You have had a distinguished career in neonatal medicine. Could you share some highlights from your journey that led you to become a leader in this field?
Dr. Kusuda: My first training in pediatrics started at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and my interest in the field started from there.
PM: In your opinion, what are some aspects of neonatal respiratory care that have received insufficient attention?
Dr. Kusuda: Respiratory care targeting long-term outcomes.
PM: Looking ahead, what are some of the most exciting emerging areas of research that you believe hold great promise for improving neonatal care?
Dr. Kusuda: Cell therapy.
PM: As a leader in perinatal and neonatal medicine, what do you consider the most fulfilling aspect of your work, and how do you maintain motivation throughout your career?
Dr. Kusuda: To see many infants discharged from NICUs with their mothers.
PM: You are currently appointed as President of Neonatal Research Network of Japan. What are the primary objectives of the Neonatal Research Network?
Dr. Kusuda: To promote clinical researches on neonatal medicine and establish the neonatal database (https://plaza.umin.ac.jp/nrndata/indexe.htm).
PM: As the Immediate-Past President of the Asia-Oceania Perinatal Society, what were some of the most significant initiatives or projects you spearheaded during your tenure?
Dr. Kusuda: Harmonization between Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and High-Income Countries (HICs).
PM: As an Editorial Board Member, what are your expectations and aspirations for PM?
Dr. Kusuda: Promote publications related to neonatal medicine.
