Dr. Mohammed Absi is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and an attending physician at the Heart Institute at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He serves as the Medical Director of the Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) program, where he leads the management of children with end-stage heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and post-transplant complications. Dr. Absi also serves as a consulting cardiologist for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with clinical focus areas in cardio-oncology and neuromuscular cardiology.

Dr. Absi completed his pediatric cardiology fellowship at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, followed by advanced instructorship training in pediatric heart failure and mechanical circulatory support at Texas Children’s Hospital. Throughout his career, he has played an integral role in developing pediatric mechanical circulatory support programs and postoperative cardiac care pathways, leading multidisciplinary simulation initiatives, and mentoring fellows in both cardiology and critical care.

His research spans mechanical circulatory support, VAD outcomes, antiplatelet therapy in pediatric MCS, congenital heart disease, and cardiac complications of oncology therapies. He has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in journals including JAMA Pediatrics, JHLT, ASAIO Journal, and Cardiology in the Young, and contributes to several national collaboratives such as ACTION, PHTS, PAC3, and PC4. Dr. Absi is also active in global health, participating in congenital heart disease medical missions in the Middle East, for which he received the Physician of the Year Award from Gift of Life International.
